Immediately we arrive at the small district of Maras and the "Village of the Salineras", where we will observe the salt mines whose traditional exploitation is so old that it continues to be carried out in the same way since the Tahuantinsuyo period. The inhabitants direct the saline water that emanates from the subsoil to pools where, due to the sun, water evaporates, leaving on the surface the salt that is then treated to be sold in the local market. The view of the whole of about three thousand pools, is spectacular. The villagers will show us their ancestral techniques and if we are lucky we will be able to intervene in the collection, as well as in the festivals and Andean rituals.
