During the journey of this circuit we will go to the Northwest of the City of Cusco in our private
transport to the town of Chinchero, located 28 km. from Cusco. Inside the town there is an outstanding attraction, which is the church built during colonial times in which one could appreciate canvases from the Cusco School. Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday are special days for the town folks of Chinchero, because the merchants and peasants meet to market their products by bartering. Besides, they will surprise us in the surroundings of the town with the enormous potential in Inka archaeology and architecture in a warm scenery of mountains and glaciers.
Traditional clay potsLater on we will be entering Cruz Pata, where we will have the view of the Lagoon of Huaypo. Around this place we could observe a great variety of typical plants of that region and huge agricultural fields that throughout the years the indigenous peasant was able to find a better production development in all types of agricultural products such as potatoes, broad beans, quinoa, etc. The time is ideal for visiting the town of Maras, an important town during colonial times. That is demonstrated by the church and the big ancient houses that still keep the shields of arms of the indigenous nobility on their facades. At present time their main economic activity is agriculture. Afterwards, we will visit the agricultural terrace of Moray which was an important archaeological center of agricultural experimentation on Inka times, on which we see concentric terraces, where it is developed a great potential of agricultural products, and of medicinal plants, that many of them were of habitual use from the regions of the jungle and the coast.
We will arrive at the little town of Salineras where we will observe the mines of salt whose exploitation is so old that they are exploited in an artisan way as it was done during the Inka Empire. The peasants channel the salty water that emanates from the soil to wells in which by the effect of the sun the water is evaporated, leaving the salt on the surface that it is later treated and sold in the local market. The view of approximately 3000 wells together is spectacular. The citizens show the visitors their ancestral techniques and allow them to intervene in the collection, as well as in the feasts and Andean rituals. The sun setting is very impressive among a magical scenery. Therefore, it is the moment to return to the City of Cusco.
